    Hi guys –

I was told that motion works best as a complement to a solid compositing app, which in my case would be combustion. can anyone give examples of what the workflow might be like? For example, do you develop in motion and bring the rendered video output into combustion and key it? How do you handle 3d compositing, if any?

How does the workflow with combustion compare to that of motion and AE. I am really looking forward to getting my hands on this app.

Motion is not as well integrated with Combustion as it is with After Effects.

You would have to export a QuickTime movie from Motion and bring it into Combustion to use it as you would any other video clip.

Motion 2 (M2) is nicely integrated into After Effects 6. An M2 project can be imported like a QT movie, but if you need to make changes you can open the M2 clip in an external editor (M2), make and save your changes, and when you return to AE it automatically updates the clip in your composition.

in either case, you are essentially working with a QT video clip.

    thanks, man!

I was just reading up on it and the functionality really reminds me of combustion! did some of the developers at discreet/autodesk work on motion?

Before they worked for discreet they were illuminaire paint & effect. I don’t know how many of the combustion team that discreet laid off worked on motion but greg niles who contributes to this forum is one of them.

I’m beginning to get a feel for how I want to approach things now that Motion is the mix. It’s much more responsive than Combustion. I forsee editing in FCP, then moving into Motion and getting whatever I can out of it (which is a lot) quickly, do Titling in Live Type or Motion, then back into FCP via the roundtripping workflow. From FCP being able to export to Combustion via Automatic Duck’s Pro Import.

I don’t have the Duck so I don’t know if this will work.

I’m looking into which 3D app I can add to my workstation as that is the only missing component from my setup and was lookin at C4D as a way when I discovered a workflow enhancement they have built into their 3d app for Motion. See it at:
