We’re in the midst of switching from FCP Studio to X. Working on Mac Pro (Mid 2010) 2×2.66 6-Core Intel Xeon. 12 gig mem. Radeon HD 5770 graphics card. We have been successfully using Motion 5 for a couple of years now, but, have finally gotten around to updating to Yosemite, and so needed to upgrade Motion. Everything seems to work well. However, when I attempt to Export a Movie from Motion…nothing happens. After doing this, everything in the Share menu is then greyed out except Send to Compressor. So, I installed Compressor 4.2 and sadly, that’s my workaround. I am able to Save Current Frame. I am able to Export an Image Sequence, but, I cannot Export a Movie or a Selection. Most frustrating. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Trashing preferences usually fixes issues like this. If that doesn’t do it, delete the app and redownload from the App Store.

Thanks, Mark. I’ll give that a go. And just so I get it right, could you give me the trash prefs procedure. I don’t do it that often and am admittedly rusty.

    1) Quit Motion.
    2) Navigate to User/Library/Preferences.
    3) Locate com.apple.motionapp.LSSharedFileList.plist and com.apple.motionapp.plist and delete them.

Also now hold option + cmd upon app launch instead like FCP X.

Hi guys. Thanks for your help. Sorry to report that trashing prefs, then deleting and re-installing made no difference. Motion works, and acts fine, I just cannot “Export a Movie” from the Share menu or by using Cmd+e. If anybody can think of anything else, I’d be much obliged.
    Cheers.

My motion has decided to no longer display a splash screen. It’s running fine, but something has obviously gone awry. I deleted prefs and reinstalled the app and it still has no splash screen. It’s been 6 months, time to rebuild the computer from scratch again I guess! Or just a new user as Mark points out.
