Posted by Terry Maloney on July 4, 2016 at 4:48 amHi
motion 5 won’t open up in El Capitanis this true with everybody?
It shows up in the Force quit applications but does not show up in the menu bar. It is finder.
No windows show up.By the way, I never signed up for El Capitan. I turned on my computer and there it was.

July 4, 2016 at 8:44 amBeen using El Capitan and Motion since the beta even. Works just fine. You might want to try trashing your prefs by holding ⌥⌘ when you start.
And no version of OS X can or will install itself. Even if it downloaded itself, you would still have to confirm the install. So there’s no way you could have turned on your computer and “there it was”.

July 4, 2016 at 10:19 amYou are right.
After I posted that last post I remembered I brought my computer in to an Apple Tech.
He must have changed my OS.If I hold down option/command when I start, will that trash a lot of other preferences also?
Thanks 😀

July 5, 2016 at 4:06 amHi Robin,
I signed up for a video training course which will answer many questions.
One thing I would like to know is:
if I have png image and make a rectangle in the middle and use my color bucket and fill it with GREEN, is this going to work as a green screen does? Thanks,
Terry -

July 5, 2016 at 2:30 pmYou may want to describe the shot more fully, but, if you have a still image as a scene, and you make a green square in a separate layer, that square can be chroma-keyed, but all that you’d see is the square becomes invisible. To chromakey , say, a PERSON into your scene, they must be photographed already in front of the green screen material. Then you bring that footage into Motion, crop it a bit and apply the greenscreen chromakey to that.

July 5, 2016 at 8:49 pmHi Mark 😀
I’m taking a Motion5 training course now……
but
jumping ahead,Let’s say I had the green square in the picture or video and I wanted to put in a full screen square of video – inside the video —-
oh, that would be like screen in a screen, wouldn’t it?Terry

July 5, 2016 at 11:19 pmWe call that “picture in picture”, and you don’t need the green screen for that, just add the asset to a track, mae the track lay above the track with the background. If the effect you want is going to stay the same, but the pictures may change, a handy shortcut would be to create a “drop zone” in your template, adjust the position of that and save it, then later, drag-and-drop any picture or video you want into the drop zone, without having to re-create all the other moves and positioning.
Good luck learning Motion – I found it pretty simple and intuitive, easier than AfterEffects for sure.
