Motion 5 slow to start..
Having this exact issue on 2 different mac pro’s, both 2008 8 cores w/ 18gb ram. One has a new 4800 Quadro w/ a GT 150 & the other has the 150 & the stock 2600 XT.
Issue:
when I open motion the project options window comes up immediately, but I get a pin wheel for about 2 minutes (not exaggerating) before I am able to do anything.I am also running FCPX on both machines with no issues…
Googled it to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My current solution is to leave motion open at all times.

Check and see if you have your systems set to allow the disks to sleep. Motion checks all volumes at start, so if any of your drives is asleep, it will pause startup and give you the color pizza.
Also, even if you don’t have that option checked in Power Settings, some external chassis (USB mainly) power their drives down regardless of the system setting.
