Motion 5. Quicklook: Gone?
Posted by Stefan Buhrmester on June 22, 2011 at 11:50 amHey guys.
I’m unable to quicklook motion files in the finder after replacing Motion 4 with Motion 5. Is that an issue on my side? Is it working for you?
Also: WTF APPLE? Where is send-to-motion and .motn clip import in FCPX???

June 22, 2011 at 1:27 pmThe paradigm has changed. You now “publish” your Motion projects to Final Cut Pro, and depending on what type of project it is – title, transition, effect or generator – it will show up in the appropriate Browser in FCP X.
Currently no ability to send video clips to Motion in FCP X.—

June 22, 2011 at 1:46 pmHey Mark…
Sorry, I fail to understand how the addition of Publishing as Generators, Transitions, etc, serves as an argument for removing the functionality to use motion files as media sources. It does not make any sense. Of course I like the ADDITIONAL publishing functionality, but not at the cost of removing standard importing functionality.
Say you created an image in illustrator and want to import it to photoshop for final retouches. But Adobe removes the functionality to import the image. Instead, you need to “Publish” the image you created to a global library, that is stored in an arbitrary location on your hard disk. It would be the same bull*hit.

June 22, 2011 at 1:48 pmOh, believe me, I’m not making any excuses for it – I think you should be able to import Motion projects to the Event library, and round-trip clips – I’m just telling you a way that you *can* get your Motion 5 projects in FCP X.

June 22, 2011 at 1:49 pmAh, alright then. It seemed to me as if you were defending the missing functionality 🙂

June 22, 2011 at 3:06 pmNope. You can’t. You cannot even import a motion file into your bin (or event library).

June 22, 2011 at 3:14 pmYou need to *Publish* your Motion projects for them to appear in the correct Browser in FCP X.

I am able to quicklook motion files in Finder after installing Motion 5 – I do have Motion 4 on the same Machine though, no idea if that is the difference
