I have started a project on my work machine in Motion 4. At home I only have Motion 5. I would like to take the project home, work on it, then bring it back to my Motion 4 machine at work.

Is Motion 4 compatible with projects from Motion 5?

    Thanks.

No, but if you have purchased Motion 5 you can sign into the App Store with your account at home and download it there without having to purchase it again. Sign into the App Store and check the Purchases tab.

Thanks for the tip! I’m not sure if our IT will be ok with that. But I will give it a shot. If not I will just have to convince my boss into coughing up the $50. It will be good to have for the future anyways. Thanks for the speedy responses!

My only question would be this – We have Motion 4 running on one of our edit suites, but that machine cannot upgrade to Motion 5 (due to incompatible video card). If someone else wants to send us his Motion 5 project, can he do a “save as” into Motion 4, and send us that file instead? If so, isn’t it just a matter of “save as”??

In other words, does Motion 5 allow you to save-as or down-convert to Motion 4? The guy with the Motion 5 setup keeps saying that it doesn’t do that.

    Your thoughts?

No, there is no “Save As” an earlier version. There is a workaround whereby you can open the Motion 5 project file in TextEdit and change the version number to 4.0.3 – it will then open in 4.0.3, but it may not have all the features you require. You could test this with a copy. But really, for $50, why mess around?
