    Hi!

    I’m stacking a bunch of Numbers generators to get a full screen of them running at the same time, from 0 to 9. There are two things I can’t figure out:

    1. (How) can I loop a Numbers generator so it starts over at 0 after reaching 9?
    2. (How) can I have these generators start at different numbers? I want a screen full of generators going from 0 to 9 over and over again, but I don’t want all of them to reach the same number at the same time.

    Basically this principle: https://depositphotos.com/63498267/stock-video-changing-matrix-numbers.html

    The ultimate goal is to replace some of the numbers by letters to form words, matching a song.

    I think there’s an offset control in the panel

    Yes, there is indeed an offset to pick the start and end of the numbers, but no loop option. I want the numbers to keep going from 0 to 9 over and over again.

    There is a Loop behavior as well, but that only applies to ‘real’ footage.

    Copy/paste it then? Well, the “duplicate” command, anyway? Not elegant, but could get it done?

    [Frederik Meuris] “1. (How) can I loop a Numbers generator so it starts over at 0 after reaching 9?”

    a) Disable the Animate parameter in the Numbers Generator and instead add a Ramp behavior to the Value, starting at zero and ending at 9 (and zero out all the other values);
    b) Clone the result;
    c) In the Timing pane of the Clone set the speed you want for the numbers animation and set the End Condition to loop.

    You now have a 0-9 loop that you can adjust to taste.

    [Frederik Meuris] “2. (How) can I have these generators start at different numbers? I want a screen full of generators going from 0 to 9 over and over again, but I don’t want all of them to reach the same number at the same time.”

    Make a Replicator of the Clone and in the Replicator controls enable Random Start frames. Set up as many columns and rows as you need to fill the screen to taste. Use either Arrangement/Tile Fill for a uniform layout or Arrangement/Random Fill for a more organic look.

    Here’s an example of this method:

    Hi Simon

    That’s exactly what I needed, thank you! First time I worked with the Ramp behavior and the Replicator and playing with the settings already taught me a lot on this one.

    Glad I could help. This is an extremely helpful trick that has countless possible uses. I keep finding new ones all the time.
