Motion 5 Content
Posted by Oded Helman on June 21, 2011 at 2:22 pmJust wondering what happened to the Content, the last version came with 2 DVDs of contents, is all of that now in the app? or is it downloadable via software update? or is it just gone?

June 21, 2011 at 2:30 pmMark, can you run both Motion 4 & 5? Can you bring old Motion projects into Motion 5, I read that you can’t bring FCP7 files into FCPX.

June 21, 2011 at 2:32 pmYou can keep M4 and M5 on the same machine. M5 will open M4 projects.

Can anyone confirm this? Or is there any way to update project files so they can work with fcpx? Or does that mean we have to hold on to FCP7 for every project created before fcpx?

June 21, 2011 at 3:16 pmI can’t exactly confirm it, but I do know that FCP X has a completely different project structure and media management/organization than FCP 7.

June 22, 2011 at 3:33 pmThanks for the prompt response.
I ask because we may upgrade to Motion 5 long before we upgrade to FCPX.
One advantage Motion has over AE is it’s ability to embed and edit .motn files directly into your FCP timeline.
From your response, I sense that you may not consider that a ‘best practice’. However, we have several projects where that feature has served us well, so I was curious as to whether we could continue that workflow if we upgraded to Motion 5. I’m open to any insights you might have on the subject.

June 22, 2011 at 4:29 pmI don’t see why you would upgrade to Motion 5 without FCP X:
-you can’t embed Motion 5 project files in FCP 7 timelines
-most of the new features available in Motion 5 are directly related to FCP X.Reasons you might want to:
1) the new keyer in Motion 5 is a HUGE improvement
2) you can take advantage of rigging within Motion itself (you just won’t be able to publish the rigs to FCP 7)—
