Motion 5 – Blending or Masking Question?
Hi, I’m new to posting but long time reader. I’ve been trying to get a blending or masking effect, not sure how to describe it, but I’ll give it a go!
– a background image
– a white foreground
– text in the foreground that shows the background throughor maybe to say, its like the ‘stencil alpha’ but rather than have a black background, it shows white foreground @ 30% opacity bleeding the background image through clear (as if in the real world, it’s wax paper over a photo and you cut the letters out of the paper to reveal the photo behind)
I’ve got it in my head and started experimenting and driving myself crazy now, so I’m going to ask the community 🙂 Help!

Add an Image Mask to the white layer and drop the text layer in the well.

Important to note that I’d forgotten to check ‘Invert Mask’ in the Mask Options.
It’s so simple and such nice results. Experimenting further, is it possible to add multiple elements on the same white layer that I have covering the whole screen (for example some text AND shapes) if there is only a single well in the mask?

Sure, just put all your elements in a group, and add the group to the well.
