I understand that editing the opacity of a 3D group will rasterize it – the group icon gets an outline in the layers palette.

In order to work around this I have created a duplicate group and matched it’s position to the 3D group. Then I edit the opacity of the duplicate.

But this workaround appears to randomly mess up the 3D intersection of other, not rasterized 3D groups in my scene!

Is there a good method for creating simple opacity effects when working with a 3D scene? All I want to accomplish is to fade out an object that is no longer in the center of the scene.

Apply your fade to the layers within the group.

Thanks; I have also noticed that setting an out point on a faded group can prevent other groups with later in points from flattening themselves.
