Seems like motion is getting better, but potatoe potato its all about the artist.

Certain things like its FCP integration is AWESOME, and utilities like AUTOMOTION allow you to rip right through lower thirds and generic bulk text. Its definately progressed since the first version, which looking back was awful.

everytime i play with motion i leave disappointed, but with its added 3d, tracking, and other goodies, it might finally be a new tool in the box.

adding a midi controller to a camera in 3d space could be fun

    YO RENDERNYC!

I test drove the new motion today. Its nice, they finally have a 3d system that includes standard particle generator (as in the particles are translated in 3d space and react to the new cameras — think particular), and some really nice motion tracking and stabilizing options. Specifically I was impressed with the image stabilization — its really really easy to use, and after you solve for a shot its very quick to make your decision on how much stabilization you want. I pried to see if you could take tracking data and copy it to the clipboard, (then atleast you could use motion as an option to track a shot if AE is doing a garbage job) but the option was unavailable.

The problem that really chapped my backside was there is no DOF option in the new camera system, and I asked about pulling a depth map, and nobody knew. They were running them on the Quad 3.0’s (not the octos) and it it was smoking.

The whole new final cut suite is pretty neat, but adobe’s studio is still more seamless and powerful in my mind. And if something is easier to make in motion, you can listerally just import it as a quicktime into AE (the project file….).

    yeah, it sounds real nice.

you copy it over to your iPod? 😉

i can see it being real useful for lower3rds when your editor is working in FCP.

no Dof… hmmm. still not bad for what it is.

just create a template and email it to them and they can handle the versions from there.
that will be 100x more common (at least for me) than ever giving a client an ae file for a premiere session
