  • Motion 2 to FCP – QT Animation w/ alpha render problems when brought into FCP

I’m having problems when I render a QT animation w/ alpha movie from Motion 2 and bring it back into FCP 5. When I play it in the FCP viewer it plays back fine, but when I bring it onto my uncompressed 8bit timeline then render it over video, it plays back and looks really chunky, almost like frames have been dropped (and it’s not from dynamicRT). I haven’t used motion 2 and FCP 5 more than 2 months but I never had this problem with motion 1 and FCP HD. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Don’t export a QT from Motion, just import your motion project into FCP & render it there. If you’re trying to use alpha channels, you’d have to render it in FCP anyway, so why render 2X?

Thanks for the quick response! I am rendering 2X because I brought the movie from a different computer (home G5) to my work G5. Yes I could bring the project from the other computer but I am trying to find a solution to this problem, because I work on graphics for some of the other editors in house and I have had this problem once before.

if you do need to render a project with alpha channels in Motion – be sure to set the background color opacity to zero in the project properties.
