I have DVD SP 4 and a G5 1.6(first generation). I have 1.25 GB of memory. I am thinking of getting motion 2 and using it for Title and motion menu design stuff for DVDSP 4. I also have AE 6.5. I do not really care a lot about realtime playback(ram preview are fine) I just want to be able to create templates and update text and image elements for my DVDSP 4 projects on the fly.

Will my CPU be able to handle basic animations, like opacity, transformation, color changes, feathering, text behaviors that come with motion 2, photoshop layered files, illustrator files.

I plan on getting a faster G5 in the near future but I want to take on clients now.

CPU yes, also make sure you have a Graphics card on the Motion compatibility list. There is a demo available so it’s risk free:

    Heya,

As Noah mentioned, you’ll need a pixel shaders-capable graphics card, which I believe all G5s have shipped with. If memory serves (isn’t that what the host of Iron Chef says before biting that onion?), the 1.6GHz G5 shipped with the Nvidia GeForce FX 5200, which does support Motion, but it’s the lowest-performance card available. You’d see a night-and-day difference if you were to upgrade the card. Good luck, and have fun!
