    hi there,
in the film mothman prophesies, when indrid cold aka mothman appears and steps out of some smoke, there is an odd kind of blur on him.
    how do i do it?

if you havent seen it or don’t remember it, he is in sillouhette, and the blur sort of narrows parts of his outline giving the faintest suggestion he could be a grey type alien.

I’ve played around with all of the blurs i’ve got, with different settings but i can’t even get something similar.

is it possible or do i need some kind of plugin?

i’m part of a team making a documentary; money is tight so i’d love to be able to achieve it with the stuff that after effects already has. i’m using ae 6.5

If he’s dark against a bright background it sounds like what naturally occurs in a camera when it’s facing an image like that (somewhat out of focus perhaps). You could try it with min/max or something in AE.

I’m just guessing because I haven’t seen the film so I don’t really know what you’re referring to.
