mosaic with puzzle pieces
I’m looking for a technique in after effects for putting together a huge collection of video clips and images that are croped into puzzle piece shapes and arranged into a mosaic. Should I create a shape mask and maniuplate it into a puzzle shape, or what?

I would download an empty black and white jigsaw pattern somewhere,
In Photoshop create separate layers of the pieces, import that as comp and use the layers as trackmattes.
Can’t think of a reasonable shortcut to automate this effect.
Are we talking hundreds of layers ? Perhaps just bite the bullet and do it. -
