I’m using after effects pro cs3.

I have a picture of a tile mosaic. I want to make it appear as though the tiles in the mosaic are flying in and piecing the mosaic together. It doesn’t literally have to line up exactly with the tiles in the mosaic, because it will happen too fast to notice in that much detail what is going on.

It seems that one of the particle effects should be able to do it, but they seem backwards – they all fly out rather than in, and that aspect doesn’t seem like something that can be animated.

Any ideas on how to do this?

I’m in awe of the professionals who post such great advice on this forum… that being said, I believe you can use the particle “flying out” effect you mentioned, precompose the layer, enable time-remapping on the precomposed layer and that should let you reverse the effect.
