morphing in AE
Posted by Luger54 on November 29, 2006 at 6:40 pmHello
I would be very happy if could do such an effect in AE? for examle: there is a vertical line going across a screen. a bird flies from the left and turns into a plane as it goes through the line.
Thank you
Greg

November 29, 2006 at 7:01 pmMmh, what do you mean? real morphing or just transitioning? Your example could easily be created by using matte layers and have your objects cut out by one of them. Where there’s your line, your matte ends and reveals the plane while your bird moves below another matte and will be hideden. If you really want to morph, use the Reshape effect or get yourself ReVisionFX’ RE:Flex plugin. This pretty much covers all options that work inside AE.

November 29, 2006 at 7:52 pmHi Mylenium
Yeah, after i had seen a morphing tutorial i thought that i was not gonna need to find a simplier way to execute the effect. Transitioning is the solution as you sad.
Id like to ask you if this stuff works like placing layers on top of each other as usual ( i will need a couple of more layers beside the mattes), so the only thing i will need to do is cut outs. One more question: What if the bird is already animated and flapping its wings? Do i need to have frame by frame cut outs? Thanks

November 30, 2006 at 11:55 amLike Dave already said, look up the tutorial by Aharon. The general magic word in AE-land is to “pre-compose”, which is something you should get used to as it’s a very powerful technique not only to achieve certain effects, but alos to organize your projects.

Thanks Guys for all the info. Yeah i have looked at Aharon’s tutorial which is very impressive to me also very simple. I have looked at a pre-composing tutorial as well but i would be interested in the method of transitioning that you suggested me try earlier.
