I love my FCP for creative editing, but, have not been on it recently until today.

I edited a VO track, added music and when I try to lay video, it inserts or overwrites onto the VO track. The music is green on the timeline, but, the VO is blue. I’m sure I’ve beat this before. My audio track is not from a video source, it’s recorded on a H6. But FCPX seems to treat it as video. Anyway, I’m sure it’s simple and stupid….what am I FUBARing here?

    Hey John,
Sounds like you’ve got the VO in the Primary Storyline. You’ve got a couple of options:
    1. Lift the VO out of the primary (as a connected clip) and edit as usual
    2. Leave the VO where it is, and add your video as connected clips on top (Q)

I almost always go with option 1, fwiw.

Many thanks. FCP brain fart in full there. It had been months since I opened it.
Still love it for my more creative work, though!
