  • more questions on the Canon Console CCU software for XL-H1

    Hi –
I just received this info from Canon directly –

“The console software (and PC running it) replaces the traditional CCU (camera control unit) in a broadcast studio. Therefore, you need one console software and PC per XL-H1 camera. You cannot use the console for mulitple cameras. Also, in the studio you need one CCU per camera. ”

So it looks like I need THREE PC’s running THREE seperate Canon Console software to control three Canon XL-H1 cameras. If anyone out there thinks that I am misinterpreting this, or if this information is wrong, PLEASE LET ME KNOW !!!!!!!!! I am surprised that Canon would expect three different PC’s to be setup for a studio shoot, where 3 CCU’s are needed.

    Thanks –

    Bob,

It is no different than in the ENG/EFP broadcast world where one (1) external Camera Control Unit (CCU) is required PER camera…

Let’s be thankful that Canon gave us the ability to completely externally control the XL H1/ XL2/ XH G1 and XH A1 via FireWire and Console software. This is a feature never before offered at this price point.

Don’t think that for a second Canon is not listening – they are… and perhaps we’ll see added functionality offered in the future. But you will need to understand these things take time.

    Best wishes,

    – don
