Thanks to Todd so much for answering my last post about graphics in fcp. He said i could not get the resolution I was aiming for without making costly upgrades, as I was working in mostly dv project. I have a question though: although graphics look horrible rendered as dv (because i only have the computer and no extra tools i guess), is it possible to render the whole timeline as animation, including the video? What will happen to the video if rendered as animation? Thanks for feedback.

What is your goal? What are you outputting to?

Don’t use Animation…That is mainly a TRANSPORT codec…HUGE filesize. Better to try 8-bit or 10-bit uncompressed. But then, to output to tape you’ll need a capture card, and those codecs cannot be laid to DV tape, only Beta, Digibeta, and the like.

We use Animation codec quite alot to go from AE to Avid or FCP, and it works fine with footage as well. If you want a way to get your final product output to tape without the DV compression this could be the way to go.

You could export everything, once completed, to a QuickTime with Animation codec and burn that to a data DVD or CD (or even an external FireWire drive if it won’t fit) and bring that to a post house or TV station that would make the dub for you from an uncompressed Avid or FCP box. Unless you know what system they have, Animation would be a good choice for delivery. Another option would be an image sequence. If they do happen to have a FCP box, then Shane’s suggestion of the 10 or 8-bit Apple codec would be ideal.

Good luck, and post back with your results!
