More Mp4 Green Screen Woes – What I Know
I have a project that I started in build 726 that had an mp4-h264 file rendered to 1912 by 1070. Someone had cropped it slightly and then rendered to the crop size (a mistake on their part.) On importing that mp4 green bars existed at the top in preview and rendering. After some research I learned that (seemingly since builds 600 or 700) mp4s of non standard sizes would show these artifacts. It was an annoyance that I fixed by cropping a little more. Today I went back to that project now with build 770. The entire clip is now green.
I decided to do a little test. I reverted back to build 726 and the project worked as it did before. So with each Vegas version it seems it’s handling of non-standard files becomes less and less forgiving without any change in codecs (unless Vegas is doing so in the installations between 726 and 770.) It went from green artifact bars to not decoding the stream at all. I demuxed the h264 stream and imported it directly in build 770 and to my surprise it decoded and played without artifacts, unfortunately the original clip has more problems. MediaInfo shows the stream: AVC high 4.0 but with no frame rate listing whatsoever. The imported h264 stream is importing at 29.970 but the frame rate should be 24.00 invalidating the edit work I have already done.
Remuxing attempts all play fine in everything but Vegas. I have remuxed to a new mp4, ts, and m2ts with mp4muxer and tsMuxer.
My question: Is there any application that can permanently change frame rate of an h264 stream that does not mux to mp4?
I plan on finishing in the older version of Vegas but it would be nice in the future to wrangle non standard media in to a working file.

And this is another reason why i havent moved from build 714, to
avoid nuances like this. Consistent updates are good, but not at the
cost of upsetting what worked well before.Steve Rhoden
