    Hi all,

I recently wrote asking for some help with mattes, and I thought it was resolved, but since I wasn’t familiar with mattes, I didn’t know exactly what to ask for. My problem is that I want to zoom in on a still, but I don’t want the matte to scale with the picture. I would like the picture to scale while the matte stays the same size. In other words, as I zoom in on the pic, I’d like a certain amount of screen space to stay black, so that zooming in on the pic doesn’t fill the whole screen. I’ve tried using 4 point garbage matte, but that scales with the picture. What other effect should I be trying out?

    Thanks again,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
Mattes are effects. They are rendered before the “Motion Effects” (Scale, Rotation, Crop,..).
If you transform a clip with a Matte, you transform the Matte too.
If you want that the Matte do not change, you must Nest the clip with the animation first, and drop the filter on the nested clip.
Perhaps instead of a Matte you would be better working with a Luma Travel Matte.

if you’re trying to essentially make a giant black frame, with the picture moving inside of it, place a color matte on V2, and then use the “Mask Shape” effect to reveal your image.
