I’m specifically wondering if anyone has more info about when Sony’s XDCam products (and their use of the MXF wrapper) will be supported under OSX and FCP in file access mode. I’m currently using the PDWD1 and can use it to capture video in the AVC mode. However this doesn’t allow me to take advantage of the IT based workflow that Sony is promoting. This situation also prevents me from taking advantage of editing IMX recorded video. If anyone has an idea of what kind of time frame I’m looking at it would be greatly appreciated. From what I’ve heard so far the ball sits in Apple’s court.

    Robert,

have you tried Telestream’s MXF Import module? It should have file access with XDCam, unfortunately it seems a “partial retrieve” feature is not available for the moment with tape based IMX transports.
I would like to hear someone else’s experience on this matter.

    Ale.

I have no personal experience of using the MXF import component but have picked up what info I can along the way.
It seems, at the present time Telestream/Flip4Mac’s MXF quicktime component enables the import of XDCAM, PDW-1500 and eVTR hosted IMX media. Apparently, however, much of the metadata is lost or otherwise not maintained in the transfer. Representatives of the Telestream/Flip4Mac MXF import component product are interested in hearing from end-users regarding specifically what elements of the MXF metadata are wanted/needed

I have looked at Telestream’s program but it unfortunately won’t work out in my situation. It will copy the data from the PDW-1500 VTR and other eVTR Sony decks but not the disk drive unit (PDW-D1) like I’ve got. I also have a couple of the 1500s as well but not in the same location. The Telestream product pulls the information through an ethernet port which the D1 doesn’t have.
