I know I’ve posted numerous times about CD burning issues on this forum, but I still have many problems with burning CDs I just don’t know what to do! Any suggestions would be wonderful.

    Here is the system:

    Intel Core i5 – 3.3GHz
    ASUS P8P67 Intel Motherboard
    4GB RAM
    GeForce GTX 550 Video Card
    ASUS SATA 24X DVD Burner

    Here is the problem:

When burning audio CDs, the last 2-5 seconds of the media is cut off the disc. We have three Vegas systems and this is a consistent issue on all of them. Occasionally, more of the disc will be missing (will cut out randomly somewhere in the disc) but since 10e was released it is usually just the last 2-5 seconds of the disc.

I know it seems like a small issue but it causes huge headaches for us due to the volume of projects we go through a week. I wish CD burning was a solid in Vegas 10 as is was in Vegas 8. Alas…

It appears to be related to the EDL. Often if I re-import the files and redo the editing, the CD will burn all the way through. Does nobody else experience this problem? In the last year I have used 6 different computers and they all have similar problems. We are mainly using either Blackmagic mjpeg files or .wav files captured in Vegas.

I have tried slow burn times, ensuring vegas is the only program running, different media without much of an improvement. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

All this being said, Vegas is a great tool for high volume CD and DVD production. We record ~300 concerts/recordings sessions a year at our music school and Vegas is a tremendous help, I’d just like to figure out this burning issue.

    Thanks!
    Jason

Ive never experience anything like you are describing when
burning CDs….iam wondering if you have the cd track regions
spaced correctly or something to do with how the files are
    captured.

    Thanks Steve –

I definitely have the track regions set correctly. In fact, my work around is to add an extra 5 seconds at the end of every disc to ensure no music is cut off the last track.

Audio only files are captured directly to Vegas through a RME Fireface 800. Video is captured using a BlackMagic Decklink card, software is Media Express.

I find it hard to believe my systems are the only ones that have these problems! It might be possible that most people don’t check their discs all the way to the very end….but still…

    Thanks for your reply!

I generally find the same problem with video sound on DVD’s I create (not CD’s). The only way I have found to “fix” this is to add a one second generated media solid color, usually black, to the end of each segment, with the audio ending prior to the generated media (essentially the same thing you’re doing with your 5 second space). It’s a bit annoying, but it always seems to work when I do this. Just confirming that you’re not the only seeing this.

At a bit of a loss as to what causes such cut on your systems….
Dont get neither here on my system.

I don’t think this should make any difference, but my “normal” process is to produce short 3-5 minute segments in Vegas (which equates to a single football or lacrosse game), then in DVD Architect, I create a PlayAll playlist consisting of the 8 to 15 segments (or chapters). During the playback of the PlayAll, at the end of each segment, the last second of music is cut off if I don’t add the 1 second “blank” track with no audio.

    Jason,
I explained a situation I have been having burning CDs here:
    https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/24/938931

I stated in this earlier post that if I used my VEGAS 8.0c machine the CDs came out fine.

Well…I burned 10 CDs yesterday for a client (an album I had recorded in my studio months ago) and even my VEGAS 8.0c PC did the same thing as my new VEGAS 11 PC. The first CD I burned was fine but the subsequent nine were “muted”. The counter clicks away as the CD is “playing” but there is NO audio playing. It’s like the CD is muted. I re-burned the CDs and when it would finish and say “do you want to burn another disc?” I would click “NO”…then go to Tools, Burn Disc, Burn disc at once audio disc for each disc and they all played fine.

This is the first time my VEGAS 8.0c PC has had this problem.

I’m beginning to wonder about the VEGAS software these days. I was working on a simple photo montage last night and got the dreaded “Vegas has stopped working and will close” message at least 10 times. And this was a very simple photo montage…one track of photos, one track of text (just at the beginning and end), and one track of audio.

I really hope Sony is paying attention to all the complaints and are working on some updates.

I have the problem on my Vegas 10 system exactly as described. The last second or two is cut off from the last track.

I’ve been using Vegas since Vegas Audio v1, so I most definitely know what I’m doing. Never had these problems before.

Also having problems where Vegas will burn bad (unplayable) discs and report that the burning was successful. This is the worst case scenario, as we now have to screen all discs in their entirety.

    Yep! That’s the problem..

I submitted a ticket to Sony support, after 27 days of waiting I received the following response:

    >I recommend navigating to the folder where the audio files are stored and deleting all of the .sfk files in that >folder, then re-open the Vegas project afterward. This will usually resolve this type of issue.

It appears that this is a known problem, I hope it can be resolved in a near-future update. We also have to check every CD to the very end to ensure it is not a ‘muted’ disc and that there are no dropouts…checking and re-burning defective discs adds up to a lot of additional work for us!
