More Capture Issues with DVC Pro 50 to FCP
Hi,
I posted a few days back about capture problems from DVC Pro 50 shot at 23.98 into FCP…and now have addtional questions! I am a bit new to the technical details here, and really trying to understand the larger concepts at work versus a quick fix (which is more what I needed the other day, and often leads to more issues down the road)…so would appreciate any input and advice….
Here is my issue:
I have quite a lot of DVC Pro 50 material shot at 24p, and am capturing into final cut using firewire on the Panasonic AJ SD93 deck…Am currently set at SG for video input. In Final Cut, I am using the DV50 NTSC Anamorphic capture preset at 29.97 with Advanced Pulldown Removal activated. I am having two issues…(a) video looks great coming from the deck, but when I view a captured tape in the Viewer window it looks very jagged in movement – interlacing, I assume? I have tried changing different variables…capturing with video input on deck at SDI (but this was blinking on the deck so I wonder if that means it wasn’t working and was using a default anyway as it looked the same as when using SG). I tried changing my capture frame rate in final cut to 23.98, which made the interlacing look even worse. I have tried pulling the captured material into sequences set at different frame rates. I have tried adding the natress fast deinterlace filter…and it’s still there. What else can I try? Should I use my AJA Kona card to import? Will this improve image quality???
(b) is the audio sync issue I am having. I’m not as worried about this, b/c I was somewhat expecting it and can deal with this more easily later. But of course, it would be great to now how to handle it on capture. For some tapes, sync seems fine. For others, it is almost exactly 2 secs off…and then there are some where the sync varies–in sync at beginning, then off, then back in sync again at the end…Whew! Thnaks for reading this and passing along any thoughts/suggestions/knowledge!
