More (but different) issue with 30P
Haven’t found a reference/resolution to this elsewhere so..
We have an issue with 30p (actually anything other than 60i) that we’ve been trying to resolve for a while. We call them “whipframes”. Lacking the ability to post a visual, the best description I can give is a frame at a cut between cameras (studio prod.) where the transition frame seems to have the fields from one “frame” interleaved improperly with a field from the next or previous frame (or imagine a 1 frame window-blind wipe). They emanate from a desire to use the more cinemagraphic features of our Panasonic SDX-900 cams. They first cropped up when we were shooting 24p which caused us to stop that, but there is a strong desire to use at least 30p so that we can have full use of the gamma features on the CCUs and cameras. Our understanding is that one loses these features if you go back to 60i. The Panasonic decks we use (AJ-SD930) claim that even when using 30P that 60i is actually output from the deck and that is what we are capturing on our FCPro systems (DVCPRO50 SDI 8 bit codec). [Production flow is: Panasonic SDX-900 cams/CCUs – Ross Synergy 1 switcher – Panasonic AJ-SD930 deck – AJA IO – FCP on Mac Pro(Intel)]I have read much about adjusting field dominance in FCP to correct this, and it does, with unacceptable caveats. Field dominance set to “none” on just the sequence eliminates these interlaced frames, BUT causes the rest of the video to have less crisp (read: jagged) edges. Field dominance set to “none” on the source AND sequence causes more pronounced interlacing transition frames. Our desired output streams are DVD/Webstream/& Broadcast(cablecast)
So, has anyone encountered and/or tackled this? Is there a production flow or setting adjustment that might improve things or even suggestions for improvement?

What happens when you open a new sequence and drop one shot into it? If it asks to set the sequence settings to match the clip settings does the field dominance of the sequence change. In fact what does the sequence change to (if at all)and what were the original sequence settings?
Do this with a clip that has been captured but not changed to none. I suspect you are loading Psf material and so a 60i sequence is what is needed with the correct field dominance to display the footage correctly.
If so, your DVD and broadcast requirements can be interlaced so it becomes an issue of how to deinterlace for the web if that is the case. even though a sequence is interlaced, it still has the progressive look.
