Moray pattern
I’m working in a 720×480 (DV50)sequence. Layer 1, Cosmos .mov.
Layer 2, Spinning globe.mov. Layers 3-9 are still images (600×400 @72dpi TGA). The intent is to fly each image out of globe. Move consists of slight rotation (30 degress) and size change (0-100%). Duration is 4 seconds for each.When I play the seq back, some look okay, but most have a “moray” pattern. I don’t have AfterFX on my Mac. Is there any way to get these looking better?

You might try using Motion or maybe changing from a 8-bit codec like DV50 to a 10-bit codec like 10-bit uncompressed or ProRes.
Or you might need to blur the animation a little.
For me, I would just use After Effects, but I realize that you don’t have that.

Thanks for your fast input on the subject. Every compressor setting I tried was about the same. Slight blur on image didn’t seem to change much either. In the magical world of HD, will this be an issue?

REducing moire is usually just a question of applying a bit of blur, say, 0.5 to 1.5 pixels. You may need both or either horizontal and vertical blur. It doesn’t take much blur to make it go away. HOWEVER, you must be absolutely certain the moire is visible in your OUTPUT format, not just on your editing display.
The problem is the frequency of the pixels in your image correspond to a mathematical operation on the pixel resolution of your format
