My sequence settings are set to export 2ch stereo. If I drop two Mono Channels into that sequence and Export to Quicktime using current settings, will the resulting file be stereo? Do I need to convert the mono audio channels to a stereo pair then export?

Also, is there any scope or meter in Final Cut that can show stereo or mono signals like the Audio monitor available on some waveform scopes? We have encountered files that seem like stereo, but other facilities have told us they are mono.

Are the mono channels actually the left and right channels of a stereo pair? If not then they need to be panned to the center and come out as two channel mono. If you need to create a stereo image, there are various ways to do with with width processing that plays with frequency and phase. They are fakes but can sound OK.STP may have a width processor. I don’t know as I use Fairlight and I have some good VST plugins that can do an OK job of stereo synthesis. There is nothing in FCP to do this as far as I know.

You don’t need a fancy phase meter to determine if something is mono. Put on a pair of headphones and you will know straight a way of you have stereo or mono.
