I’ve got a Macbook Pro and a 22″ Acer monitor running out of the DVI port which I use as a video editing station which comes apart quickly and allows me to travel pretty easily. I’m looking at adding an HDTV, so I can throw renders and outputs up on it for reference (I’m aware of the color concerns, for now I’m not worrying about it since I’m not able to get a Matrox or an IO box).

What’s the difference between getting a DVI splitter cable and adapting one to HDMi for the TV, and running both monitors like so, or getting something like a Dualhead2Go box (which is annoying because it adapts from DVI to VGA back to DVI again) or other external monitor bridge? Will the DVI splitter just send the same thing to both monitors and the box will allow me to have independent control of them, effectively giving me 3 heads (including the Macbook screen? Have I answered my own question?
