    PLEASE HELP.

I have a core i7 930 laptop 64bit OS. It has an HDMI, PCI Express slot and a DVI type connection. I want to be able to monitor the video I see on the Vegas gui on a REAL TV or some kind of monitor. I cant seem to get Sony to tell me anything because they are so obsessed with not recommending products that they cant say anything.
SO, what is the best way to go?
Can I use the express card slot with the Matrox MX02 mini or Motu HD express? will Sony recognize it for input and output of video?
I already found out that they dont support HDMI out.
If I use the DVI connector what kind of monitor can I use for viewing both HD and SD?
I thought I had prepared myself for this change over to Vegas from my last edit system but I guess I didnt expect to run into such a basic problem of monitoring the output video.

Your help is VERY much Appreciated.

For HD I use the Windows Secondary Display option in Vegas. This should work fine with a laptop. Any good quality HD monitor will do although a broadcast monitor is always best. I use a Spyder3 to calibrate it to make sure I can trust the colors.

    Thanks for responding John.

So what output from the laptop – The DVI? I know it I cant use the HDMI. Should I use a DVI – HDMI converter then go into any HD tv and if I do will I be able to see both HD and SD?
Do you know if I can use a matrox MX02 mini or Motu HD express box through the PCI express card slot? I would like to beable to import analog somehow and would rather use one of those boxes instead of that Canopus box with firewire.
Sorry for picking your brains, I do appreciate the help.

As John says, you can use Windows secondary monitor, and yes a DVI to HDMI cable will work for HD and SD, but a less expensive DVI to VGA adapter will also work if you have a VGA input on your HDTV. As far as using your PCI express slot for monitoring, I’m not sure yet. I am looking into the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle to do just that. I recently purchased the shuttle and a PCI Express USB 3 adapter and hard drive and when the shuttle arives (Come on Blackmagic, don’t advertise if you arent shipping yet) I will find out if it’s compatible with vegas or not. It will allow me to capture straight from the imager 10 bit 4.2.2 color space HD instead of the HDV through the firewire. This waiting for the Shuttle to arrive is killing me. LOL

Matrox and MOTU don’t list Vegas on their site just Adobe Premiere Pro so I would contact them to find out. Vegas only supports with a small number of these boxes so you might want to contact Sony as well. My take is, “if the manufacturer didn’t test it… assume that it doesn’t work!”
