  • Monitoring out to HD/LCD

Posted by Tim Baker on February 8, 2006 at 12:04 am

    Hey all,

I finally sprung for a High Def LCD to monitor my HDV output from my Kona2 and Kbox in Final Cut Pro…but it is not really working.

The problem is that my footage is at 720p@30frames per…when I go to setup my monitor output the only choices are all but the 720@30frames…it is labeled as “missing”…anyone know what I can do to get my 720@30 presets back…at one time this worked fine…even with a downconversion to a standard NTSC monitor. All I get now is a still at the start and a new still when I stop playback. I am using the component out of the Kbox to a new Samsung HD LCD.

    Thanks so much,

By the way…no matter what playback setting I use…I do not get motion video to the external monitor. It just stays in a start frame still and then changes to the end frame still when playback is stopped.

    Thanks,

simply go back to the http://www.aja.com website under support, and download the drivers for the Kona 2, and reinstall them. All your settings for the Kona will come back.

Oh, also make sure you have “all frames” checked under “View-External” in Final Cut Pro.

Yeah…I had already checked the “all-frames”…I will try the re-download and see what happens.

Has anyone else seen this happen…seems wierd that the only presets that would dissappear are the 720p30 settings.

I know it worked at one time…even in a downconvert to a standard old NTSC monitor.

    Thanks,

When you open up the easy set ups there is a littlt check box that says “show all” is that checked? I got burned on this once before looking for a setting once.

The 720p30 set up is present in the Easy Setups…but if I select that my project is fine, but when I go to set an output setting for monitor or to tape…the 720p30 setting is not in the list at all.

How can that be? I am really confused here…I will try to do the download of the new drivers/etc. from Kona…I just have to get my cable run to my new office location…Thanks all.

    Tim,

I am not positive here but I think that you can acquire the footage at 30P but you need to use a 59.94 sequence output setting to play it out through your KONA 2 card. I am not sure that there is a 702P 30fps delivery spec and that is why there might not be a preset for that.

The Kona 2 brochure states that it does 60 and 59.94 in 720P so I imagine you might want to use the 60 presets.

Thats because the spec for all 720p video out is 60 frames a second.

What ever you shoot in 720 has to play out at 60 frames, that is the spec for the 720p format. ( just like 24p NTSC has to play back at 29.97) Your pulldown cadence should be 2:2 so that FCP add back in one frame for every one you have shot with the JVC camera.
