Monitoring on 19″ LCD from laptop?
I wanted to get some thoughts on a home coloring system I’m planning. I’m not looking to build something perfect, but I’d like a decent level of accuracy.
This is the plan:
DaVinci running on a MacBook Pro or iMac, with monitoring on a small LCD TV (calibrated) by going out through Thunderbolt and into a Blackmagic Intensity Extreme to the LCD through the HDMI connection.
Would this breakout system give me an acceptable level of accuracy with a calibrated TV?
I’d love to hear from anyone using a laptop and breakout box to an LCD.

Iwould say that the new Thunderbolt I/O is a good investment as it gets you a 10-bit spigot from your machine.
You did not specify what 19″ set you are using but it is almost guaranteed that it won’t really be a calibrate-able display, in terms of a broadcast reference.
You can suffer with it but I would suggest saving up for a HP Dreamcolor 24″ which can be calibrated well and is a 30-bit display with good characteristics. It can be driven with a HDMI to displayport and will be the least expensive “real” reference monitor available.

SOny makes those small OLEDs like 13″ or so.
That’s the best mobile option there is.
Not cheap of course but damn accurate.
