Monitoring HDV
What’s the best way to monitor HDV, I as most of us am new to this whole crazy realm. Even the workflow boggles my mind!
Any tips?

You need a video capture card to monitor HDV, like Black Magic or AJA.

What about the monitor, what is best… will any old HDTV do? and what about the whole apple cinema display deal. Will one of those work? and can a G4 power one?

Well, the purpose of using a capture card is the ability to use a cheaper SD monitor instead of an expensive HD one.

You can use a cinema display. An HD Link from BlackMagic will give better results for this. A G4? Hmmm…that shouldn’t be an issue as long as it can run FCP 5.
