This is something that’s bugged me with every version of Premiere I’ve tried: why is the monitor window so DARK?

Lots of my videos are shot in clubs, so they’re understandably not as bright as some–but every video I capture with Prem shows up dark.

So dark, I usually have to add some video fx to the timeline, just to be able to see anything in the monitor window.

With the concommitant preview build-time this entails, it really bogs workflow.

Is there anything I can to to brighten the image in the monitor window?

I’ve even tried going into my Windoze Display Properties and lightening up the monitor settings–but it’s like the monitor window in Prem is IMMUNE to any of these settings. Everything else brightens up, but the monitor stays dark.

    Thanx, all, for your help.

Sure should reflect the rest of the display, as well as your video.

What version of Premiere are we talking about ? Also, if you change the monitor to waveform and uncheck Chroma, how many IRE’s are you getting on average?

    Sorry; 6.5.

And hey, you lost me utterly. Waveform? IRE’s?

Perhaps those options are available only in Pro and later versions?

(Kinda stuck on 6.5, ’cause Pro dropped time-lapse, which is a function I require in this studio).

    Meantime, thanx heaps, for responding.

    Best,

Got it… yep no waveform there. But I would really encourage you to reconcider the upgrade, I think you might be amazed at the amount of improvement over 6.5 (Couldn’t list them all in one post)

Couldn’t you just import your time lapse image sequence in Premiere Pro ? That’s how I’ve done it and it usually works flawlessly, or are you creating a timelapse from a video.

Regarding the brightness issue, it could have been a 6.5 issue, but believe me, looking back, there were plenty of much more annoying things than that, just try pulling a smooth image pan or zoom as an example 😉

    Cheers,

    Vince

Yes, I’ve looked at/played with Pro, and I’ll acknowledge it’s a vast improvement over 6.5–but another factor for me is that it’s XP only, and I’m still locked into win2kPro.

Got a dell lappy coming this week with XP installed, so maybe I’ll make the leap; just keep 6.5 around for time-lapse.

And no, not imported time-lapse footage or doing it from video but literally USING 6.5’s time-lapse capture options to create time-lapse animations.
