We want to start shooting tapeless intra 100. What can I use to monitor this? I called Aja and they said Kona doesn’t support it.
I’m happy with Kona, I don’t want to jump ship, but I don’t want to render to see the output either.

Any other pro solutions? maybe something in conjunction with the LHi?

Aside from monitoring, I still need to capture SDI SD with analog audio. Up/cross convert would be a bonus. I’m upgrading to FCP 7.

    Thanks!

Intra 100? Are you talking AVCIntra…the 10 bit Panasonic P2 format? SURE Kona can be used on that. You import that as ProRes, or via MXF4MAC or P2 Flow (so you can work natively). FCP 7 supports AVCIntra import native, but there are no sequence settings for it. So ProRes is the standard option.

the Kona will do well with this. LHi… analog and SDI inputs, and up/cross convert capable.

Ahhhhh, native import. I assumed the sequence supported it. Thanks for clearing that up!

    Shane,
P2 Flow looks looks pretty cool. Does it fool FCP into to thinking it’s a QT or something? I’d like to avoid going to ProRes.
So if I use P2 flow to import the mxf, Kona will play the file without rendering?

What about re-cutting a show down the road after it’s been archived. Do the files re-import without any issues?

Beware this codec is a play only codec, if/when you need to render anything it has to be rendered to another codec, normally set to ProRes. This is also true if you export a movie of the final seq.

    Thanks Michael,
That’s just a matter of the render control user pref, right?
I’m about to upgrade to ver7, but when I go to render control, ver 6 says the ProRes setting is for HDV & XDCAM HD only. Is this a LowRes version of ProRes?

Even if you use MXF4MAC, you need to use the PRO RES sequence settings when working with AVCIntra natively. Render control is only for HDV/XDCAM…on versions FCP 6 and 7.

So I would select Kona LHi 1080 29.97 ProRes correct?

Correct. Choose that EASY SETUP and all will be set.
