  • Monitor selection for FCP HD system…

Posted by Tim Baker on June 21, 2005 at 11:44 pm

I am just getting my Kona2 FCP HD suite up and running…a mobile suite…and am looking for advice on a good set of monitors that are cost effective to pair with it.

Keep in mind that I am a mobile editor and 15 to 17 inch displays are enough. I just can’t spend an arm and a leg. I am also about to purchase the JVC HD100 so my money is stretched a bit.

I currently use Samsung Syncmasters with my old SD edit system, but would like to know what everyone thinks for the HD system.

I would also like some advice on a reasonable edit desk…not the usual Office Depot junk, but also not the $1500.00 ones that I am finding on line either.

    Thanks a lot…

A really slick monitor is the 17″ Sony MFM-HT75W which is a multiformat Computer / HDTV monitor. It has two computer inputs, RGB and DVI and it features Component, Composite and S-Video Inputs along with a regular TV tuner. I got mine for $599 at a local Fry’s Electronics.

I have a mobile workstation as well and the beauty of this single monitor is that I get a very high resolution DVI image for editing FCP, then switch over to the Component Input to watch the video in full HD via my Kona 2.

The monitor is NOT good enough for critical color correcting decisions, but for straight editing, it’s great.
