  • monitor recommendations?

Hi, I am a motion graphics and print designer looking for a monitor for occasional working at home use, to hook up to a Macbook pro. I’d like a 22″-24″, matte screen. I also need 1:1 pixel mapping. I have a 30″ Apple Cinema Display at work which is nice but expensive.

I’ve researched different panels etc. but nothing seems perfect. I have read enless reviews, but most users seem to be gamers who are more interested in input lag than in color accuracy. I have looked at Apple 23″, Dell Ultrasharp, BenQ V2400, Samsung 240 and 245, and some I don’t remember. There is also a brand new BenQ just out that’s 16:9 vs. 16:10. No reviews on it though. I’m stuck.

I’d love to get recommendations for the best monitor from people who use mostly AE, PS and Illustrator, for around $400 to $600? Thanks!

very few of us will have actually worked on all of those different monitors. I use 2 30″ monitors. A dell and an Apple. I love the Dell.
(dont tell my apple friends) better color and is designed MUCH better as far as flexibility goes.

It was cheaper than the apple was. I would recommend the dell 22-24 inch. I would look on ebay or for refurbished units if you need a better deal pricewise. Apple’s 24 inch refurbed unit is probably close to $600.

most monitors will allow you to calibrate them to be as accurate as you can make them. I am in broadcast design, so I use the blackmagic card output to an HD NTSC monitor for a true idea of accuracy. It depends on where your works final destination is.

Thanks for the response, Scott. I did actually end up getting a Dell, the Apple was just too much. I got the new 2409, which is a 16:9 monitor. I like it so far although I haven’t done a good calibration yet, only with the monitor buttons. Otherwise, great picture.

Im a huge fan of all things Apple. But my first big hardware purchase
that was non mac, was my Dell 30″ monitor. Great price, and better
picture. I have the dell and the apple NEXT TO each other sharing the desktop, so I see daily the difference. Good choice.
