Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Monitor advice

I’m looking to get a couple of monitors for a MacPro for use with Final Cut and Color – and thought that someone on the Cow might have some sterling advice!

At the moment, it’s for work for the web and for SD DVDs – so I don’t need full HD broadcast standard colour monitoring, but I do want to see what the average widescreen TV viewer is likely to see on their home TV (in PAL land, if that makes a difference), and what the average PC user would see on their computer.

At the moment I’d like to keep the budget as low as possible, but a set up that might still be of partial use if I needed to upgrade to Broadcast SD or even HD at a later date would be great!

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help!

The best computer monitors available currently are DELL ULTRASHARP 2408WFP at $600. Get two. And get yourself a Panasonic TH-42PH10UKA pro plasma for $859 until you decide you need a true broadcast monitor. Of course you’ll need an I/O card such as a Kona LHe or Blackmagic HD Extreme to feed the signal to the monitor.

Best computer monitors are the Dells.

The best LCD Broadcast displays I’ve seen are the TV Logic LCD panels. Excellent for both SD and HD.

I’ve read bad things about the input lag on the Dell displays, any thoughts? Also are they HDMI 1.2 compliant?

    Thanks

[Rob Alexander] “I’ve read bad things about the input lag on the Dell displays, any thoughts?”

    Nothing bad here…

[Rob Alexander] “Also are they HDMI 1.2 compliant?”

Not certain, but most here are using these monitors as as computer displays, not video monitors. Sure they’ve got all of those inputs, including HDMI, but that’s not what most professional FCP editors will use them for.
