MOJO & adrenaline compatability
Posted by Spotcharlie on October 17, 2006 at 5:25 pmI’m running 3 media composer adrenalines on g5s. i’m thinking about buying the new media composer mojo sdi. has anyone used this. and if i hook into the unity with it, will i be able to interact with projects from the adrenalines. i’d basically be using the mojo media composer to make tapes, digitize or export quicktimes while edits are going on in the adrenalines. thanks for your time and your help

October 17, 2006 at 6:14 pmI can’t imagine you’d have any problems, especially since MC is now software only.
The only thing you get with a Mojo, Mojo SDI, or Adrenaline box are multiple inputs/outputs and realtime acceleration. If I understand correctly, the Mojo and Adrenaline take some of the load off your computer’s processors by handling the effects in the box. By mixing Adrenalines and Mojo SDIs you’ll notice your Mojo SDI can’t do as many realtime streams as your Adrenaline can and will likely have more limited realtime effect playback, but you should still be able to burn through quite a bit of stuff before you have to render.
If you’re mostly going to be using the MC Mojo SDI for exporting quicktimes and tape dubs you should be running fine. As a matter of fact, an Xpress Pro might work just as well, unless your editors use a lot of animatte effects, or other effects not available on the Xpress system. Otherwise, an Xpress box will be much cheaper and work just as well.

October 18, 2006 at 6:34 amAll you will lose by going with Mojo SDI from Adrenaline (on a Media Composer system, of course) is some i/o connectors, no HD support (Mojo SDI is SD-only), and less horsepower for driving your effects/composites, etc. Otherwise, you will notice no difference.
Mojo SDI with Media Composer Soft is a great “low-end” system for companies who are running Adrenaline and Symphony Nitris systems. Many use it for logging, offlines, etc. It’s a great setup. VERY overpriced, but still great. It should fit your needs well.
Take care.

Does the software limit the realtime possibilities (e.g. gives a blue dot) with the mojo or is it going to skip frames more frequently when there’s too much effects?
After working on a few different MCs (Adrenaline to software only), I have the feeling that everything RT is handled by the computer CPU. There doesn’t seem to be strict rules about realtime possibilities. It just seems that the more the CPU is, the smoother is the ride, be it Adrenaline or Mojo.
The Avid website isn’t clear about the differences either. It just seems like they put marketing hype to give some “realtime glory” to the Adrenaline.
Can anyone enlighten?
