    I have noticed when I place random clones on the surface of an object they cluster (as they might). What I would like to know is, are there degrees of randomness?

    Can I place a load of clones on the surface of a model and make it so they don’t cluster as much?

    Can you specify a number of clones to be spread out equidistant across the surface (or a selection of) the same object?

    I suppose the idea is to make them look randomly placed, when they are not actually that random.

    There’s a number of things you can do to affect the degree/type of randomness:

    *change the random seed in the cloner;
    *use a poly selection to restrict placement;
    *use a Random effector instead of the surface option in the cloner (but unless your object is planar this will cause some intersection);
    *MOST FLEXIBLE APPROACH: use a Shader effector to control the clones’ visibility. With this you can use any kind of noise, shader, or texture to locate the clones on your object.

    Thanks Adam,

    I have been using polygon selections to restrict the are, but in all honesty it’s the intersectionss which cause the problem.

    I’ll look at the shader idea as a way of distibuting the clones.
