    I’m creating a simple animation with Typo falling down on the floor. Some words are working fine and falling and bouncing up correctly, but in some cases I have strange directional jumping with no reason. I tried changing thousands of different settings with no success. What I want to get rid off, is the jumping to the left. In most of my other words the letters just jump up a little bit and don’t jump to the side.

    Take a look at this example from my viewport:

    Here is my setup for this animation (extrude objects placed in a fracture object):

    When simulating dynamics, its difficult to get the pieces to do what you want.
    Some things to try are;
    1:Changing the seed parameter if your using an effector.
    2:Slightly rotating the letters before they fall can make them bounce differently.
    3:Using a wind object to blow the letters in the direction that you want.
    4: use custom initial velocity to send the pieces in the direction you want.
    If you get erratic behavior after lots of tweaking, jot down your settings and replace the rigid body tag for a new one. I also recommend using the cache tag for more stability.

    Hi Bruce,

    thanks for your hints…I already tried most of them. The problem seems to me more like a bug or something…cause the problem is not that my objects not doing exactly what I want, but they are jumping very energetic to the left for no reason. Did you watch the short movie-clip I attached? There you can see that they jump to the left, as if a force is dragging them into that direction.

    I hoped that someone else made this experience and could find a solution for this unexpected behaviour.

    One other thing that I discovered is that when I change the collision-type to “ellipsoid”, my letters jump correctly into the air…changing it back to “automatic” or “box” makes them jump to the left again. I worked out a solution for me by keyframing the collision-type…so one or two frames after the bouncing from the floor, I change the collision type to “box”. But…I HATE workarounds! 😉
