March 24, 2010 at 12:14 amHi everyone,
I am looking to render a series words that are all pinned to a point on the surface of a sphere. Obviously, the easiest solution for me is to make a square image of the words in Photoshop, bring them in as textures into Cinema4D and apply them to a cloned plane that is set to “object” mode for a sphere model.
The execution of this plan is not an issue. However, when I go to render, AR3 doesn’t seem to like the fact that I’ve punched out the words using the alpha channel from a texture. Whenever two cards overlap, Cinema renders the transparent part of the alpha as solid black.
Has anyone else run into this problem? Am I missing a checkbox somewhere in the interface?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

March 26, 2010 at 1:39 pmSounds like you need to increase the Ray Depth setting in Render Settings>Options. Ray depth determines how many transparencies the camera can see through before it returns black instead of transparent. Lower settings speed up rendering and reduce ram use, so raise it only as much as necessary to eliminate the artifacts.
