Hi I’ve been using FCP for a while, but originally came from an online suite.
I used to be able to add modulation to a wipe to get a random wavy edge to it in the online suite.
I have not found anyway to do that in FCP.

Am I missing something or is there a trick or plugin for this?

    Thanks

    Steve

You probably want to use the gradient wipe and insert a custom grayscale image into the image well to get the effect you are looking for. There is no Avid paint (I think this is what you would have used) type of utility in FCP.

You can download some grayscale images and see how they work here:

Of course you can also create your own. I know there are several other packages of these types of images out there but the names of them eludes me at the moment.

    Hope it helps

    Thanks Bob.

It may have been called Avid Paint, but I haven’t worked on an Avid in years.

This was more like a wave form modulator on a scope, it was on a Sony Online suite.

    I’ll try the gradients.

    Thanks again.

    Thanks

you can also try drawing your own wipe and animating that however you want if you have Motion

It’s nice that those gradients are free, but holy ADO, take me back to the 80’s already. Take a look at some of the organic maps at Pixelan’s site.

    Have a wonderful day.
