    Hi.

I’m a film making amateur, but it seems to me there is a feature that is crying to be added to film making software.

Have you ever rendered a movie for a client, then realised you got a spelling wrong and had to completely rerender the whole movie? Well this suggestion could solve that.

    ——————–

My idea (and tell me if it already exists) is to have modular rendering options. The process would look like this.

    1) You set module markers (just like DVD chapters) within your timeline to define modules. (probably between significant parts of your edit. ie scenes)

    2) You render individual modules, or the complete project (in modules).

    3) A new file is created that is similar to a Mac OSX application because it is a folder containing the individual modules, but it is a single playable media file. When played, the file cycles through the modules one after the other seamlessly.

    4) The client says they want you to make a major edit to the first scene.. so you do..

    5) You render only that scene. You can even extend or reduce the timing for that scene.. Then you replace that module in the file and the media file (which is really just a list) updates with the new file info.

    ———–

Hey presto. This significantly reduces render time and how much data you need to send to the client in order for them to see the latest update, BUT, you still get to edit and view in context.

Set in and out points in timeline, delete render file, re-render.
