Hi everybody. Admittedly, I’m relatively new to AE and pretty much against my wishes at this particular time forced to learn fast. Am on deadline to deliver, so it’s the crash course, total immersive thing.

My dilemma is this: I’ve got 16 titles (cast names consisting of two lines, first name on top, last name on second) — one following the other in rapid succession — all presently set to AE’s “Zoom Forward” preset.

Obviously, each Zoom Out looks just like the preceding one so I’m aiming to diversify the zooms. What I can’t seem to understand is how to do that, despite poring through my many AE books.

Presently each layer zooms out to the left side of the screen toward the right (default). I understand the velocity tweaking, but can’t figure how/where to manipulate which side of the screen the text zooms out to. I want as much variety as possible — right to left, left to right, top to bottom, etc., and it’s driving me nuts.

I’ve looked in the Range Selector, but must be overlooking something else. I’m sorry for being so naive. Please, help.

Select your layer and hit the “U” key to show all animated keyframes or “UU ” to show all modified properties. This will show you all values that are being animated or have been modified to produce the text effect.

I think what you want to do is change the Shape (in Animator 1 > Range Selector > Advanced > Shape) to Ramp Up from Ramp Down and then switch the Range selector Offset keyframes.

What’s thrown me off is that I expected to find indicators of some kind running on the timeline that would indicate where specific events where happening — much like the key frame markers themselves. Apparently, that is not the case with stuff taking place under “Animator 1.”

In order to differentiate the zoom out directions, I’ve been playing with the “Random Order” (on/off) and “Random Seed” options.

    Still haven’t nailed it.

Modifying “Random Order” and “Random Seed” are, indeed, the fix!
