    Hey all –

Is there a way to modify the TC of the Media start in the browser? I have several items off line that I am redigitizing and need to give my deck a few seconds of pre-roll. Unfortunately the clip’s media start is 00:00:00:00!!!

In Avid, I coudl modify all fields in the browser (after wading thru many warning po-ups), and I am looking for that feature in 4.5?

Also, after I redig these offline items, will they relink themselves to the timeline media automatically? Thanks in advance.

You can modify the timecode of a clip by selecting it in the browser and then selecting “Timecode” from the Modify menu.
I think this may not work in your case, because of the 00:00:00 rollover. I know most versions of Avid also cannot handle the rollover either (though its possible recent releases have fixed that).

You might want to consider dubbing this clip via firewire (if it is a dv clip) to another tape with new timecode so you can get a proper pre-roll. Who knows, you many need to re-digitize this project someday and it will make your life a whole lot easier.

    Thanks John –

I just want to tell FCP to start re-digging at 00:00:10:00 versus 00:00:00:00. Will what you explained do that? There is no rollover on the tapes. Thanks.

also, can I re-dig just subclips? It seems to default to the master clip when I try this. Thanks.

    If they are independent.
The family relationship of clips is a bizarre affectation of FCP. I’ve never used Avid so I cannot tell you if there is an analogue that might help you understand the relationships. See kenstone.net for an article on the family of clips introduced in FCP4.
