Modify Source, duplicate log

So if I understand right, you logged one tape. Now, because they all have the same timecode, you want to duplicate the logged clips and batch capture the duplicated clips under a different tape name, right?

If that’s right it sounds like it won’t work. What will work is this:
You have a captured clip. Open your capture tool. Drag your online clip into the capture tool. It will use the timecode from that clip to set the In and Out in your capture tool. Give it a name like Tape 2 or however you’re naming your clips and log it. Repeat and name it Tape 3 or whatever, also giving each of these the proper tape name. Repeat for all tapes you need to. Now batch digitize these newly logged clips. Done!

By doing this you’re borrowing the timecode of the captured clip(s), but nothing else. Since all timecodes are the same you can just drag a clip in, give it a name and tape name, then hit F4 to log or capture it. It should actually be faster than what you were trying to do.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your suggestion. I had thought about doing it that way, but I had just hoped that Avid had a much easier more versatile way to handle the problem. I literally have hundreds of clips logged for each tape. It took me about five hours just to log the first two tapes. Not to mention the amount of time it took to online them all. If you or anyone else for that matter, has a solution to this, or heck even a workflow suggestion that would help me stream line my process, I would be happy to hear it.

Thank you again, until I find out another way, I’ll just drag the clip over to the digitize tool, rename it, re-log it, and then re-batch the whole group.

Keep’n my fingers crossed for a better more efficient solution.

You need to unlink the clips before changing the reel number. On a PC, hold down control and shift, then select Unlink from the Clip menu (without holding down Control and Shift, the menu shows only “Relink”)

Once the clips are unlinked you can change the reel number without affecting the original clips. Change the reel number then batch capture.

repeat as required, can avoid unexpected relinks if you have multiple versions on line!
