  • Modify Frame Size DV50 Codec on PPro CS5

Posted by Joao Laureano on July 3, 2012 at 2:05 pm

    Hello,

I need to export a .mov file on 720×486 under the DV50 NTSC Codec, however Premiere Pro won’t allow me to change from its basic 720×480 settings. Is it possible to change the frame size with DV50 NTSC codec somehow? Please note that the original file and sequence settings are both in 720×486.

    Thanks in advance

    Joao

    Hi Joao,

DV, DVCAM, DVCPRO, DV50 are all 720×480 formats and you can’t modify the specs any more than you could change a DVD to 720×486, sorry.

Either choose a different codec to export to, or deal with 720×480. If you stay with DV50, you may wish to use the CROP setting in AME to remove the extra 6 lines to avoid scaling the entire image which could result in softness. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you the best combination of top/bottom cropping to use, such as 3,3 or 4,2 or whatever. You may need to experiment and see what looks best for your situation.

    Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your feeback, I was afraid that it wouldn’t be possible, but had to check to make sure. Will try to use cropping and see how it goes, thanks for the advice.

    Best regards

Crop 2/4 or 4/2 (even) but not 3/3 (odd) to preserve field order. An odd crop would cause a reversal in field order, and that’d be a problem for interlaced material.
