I’m looking for a solution to modify offline batch list data from FCP. For instance changing reel name across a bin, also adding a prefix to
clip names across an entire bin.

I’m looking at using filemaker pro or excel but not sure if this will do what I want either.

    Thanks for any ideas.

Well this would be the first place I would look other than the manual:
Media Management in Final Cut Pro 4 – By Andrew Balis

Try just double clicking on your clip info like the reel name column. You can copy/paste all or part of a name. When you double click, it will select all the characters so you will have to use your right and left arrows to get to the front or end of the part of the name you want to keep or you can highlight any part of the name you want to change with the mouse. Now try CRTL+clicking for the contextual menu while hovering over the item you want to change like over a reel name in the reel name column. You can modify any item that is displayed in the Bin Browser by CRTL+clicking for the contextual menu.

which leads me to another version of the same question, but your solution doesn’t work. what if, after you’ve logged your clip, and say you’ve made it a video only clip, but then you want to modify the clip and make it audio and video; how/can you modify the clip?

    thanks, jack

Are you telling me if you CTRL+click over an item let’s say in the Tracks column your don’t get a contextual menu?

Give me a day, I have my PowerBook packed away in my briefcase. I’ll fire it up to show the EXACT methodology.

Unless I am hallucinating, I remember correcting captures, let’s say A1+A2, by deleting previously captured media–clip icon with a red line through it–and CTRL+click the audio track column and selecting A1 for only the raw interview channel since there was nothing but ambient noise on A2.

    ?????…

PS I could swear CTRL+click brings up contextual menus like right clicking with a Windows mouse.

Go here and do a search for “Control + Click”
