Hello all, hoping someone can help as hoping to find the best solution for modelling something similar to the attached image in to a 3d model.

Using C4D R16 at this end and would like to know whether to model/sculpt something like this manually or use a displacement map and bake it to create the required geometry?

    Thanks in advance. Anil

Seems pretty strait forward to model.

My modelling skills aren’t the best so any tips would be appreciated.

this is a test of concept – it’s very wrong in the spacing and curve execution but basically it’s just a cube with subdivisions to match the number of ridges (for half the object) then every second top edges/vertexes are lifted to make the ridges followed by moving the center vertexes outward. All in a SubD surface to smooth it and dropped into a Symmetry object to make the other half.

Brian is correct, some patient box modelling does the trick. Knife three edges for each ridge and manipulate them

Thanks both. That’s the route im going down at the moment after having experimented using the Bezier Grid and Plane with Knife and Slide then finally Subdivision.

Not very good at surface modelling and always struggle to get nice clean geometry. Need more patience and practice as only mainly do simpler packaging models.

Will update with my test result.

To get the curving lines I would either use soft selections or the polygon brush tool. Both offer falloff options that can be edited to taste.

Thanks for all the tips and examples all.

Happy with the result so far.
